At our college, the onboarding process for faculty and staff is designed to ensure a smooth transition into their new roles. Upon hiring, new employees receive a comprehensive orientation packet that includes essential information about the institution, their specific department or unit, and detailed benefits. This is followed by an orientation session, where they are introduced to key administrative staff, given a tour of the campus, and provided with an overview of the college’s mission, values, and strategic goals. New tenure-track faculty members are paired with a mentor who guides them through academic policies, teaching resources, and research opportunities, while new staff members are assigned a buddy within the college for support. Additionally, the college offers a series of workshops and training sessions to help new hires develop essential skills, understand institutional procedures, and integrate into the college community. This onboarding program, together with the various university onboarding programs, aims to foster a welcoming and supportive environment, ensuring that new faculty and staff feel valued and equipped to succeed in their roles.
