Prosperity Studios support public partnership engagement in College of Design studios or courses that adopt an Iowa Mayors’ Design Workshop community or a Design/Shift organization.

Established as part of Prosperity, by Design initiative, the grant program offsets the total cost of a community- or nonprofit-partnered studio or course. Funds may be expended on materials and supplies, printing, student and faculty travel to partner communities or organizations, and undergraduate student support for purposes such as report editing. IDRO will help facilitate faculty connections with external partners and communities and assist in defining the scope of work as needed. IDRO will further provide project management support for award implementation.

Funding requests may range from $3,000 to $5,000 for one semester, to coincide with the scheduled course. A one-semester, no-cost extension may be requested if needed to finalize deliverables, such as a report to the partner organization or community. The total project period may not exceed two semesters.

Applicants must be currently employed faculty or staff within the College of Design who are tasked to teach courses. Grant applications must clearly identify the community or organization the class will partner with and how the effort will advance a project or activity associated with the Iowa Mayors’ Design Workshop or the Design/Shift design-a-thon. Inquiries for background information can be made to Julie Robison (jrobison@iastate.edu).

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis (for the next scheduled semester) and reviewed by IDRO staff upon receipt for completeness. Award recommendations will be made to the dean of the College of Design, who will determine selections for these grant awards. Applicants will be notified within 1 week of application submission.

Awardees are required to provide a two-page report on the funded project to IDRO within one month of completion date and to make an occasional presentation for IDRO seminars, Dean’s Advancement Council meetings or other activities as requested. A report template will be provided. Report content will be shared with donors who support the grants and may be used for social media and other college communications and publications.
