“Raluca Iancu: Thresholds” is a new exhibition of print-based work by Raluca Iancu, associate professor of art and visual culture (printmaking), on display from Sept. 28–Nov. 20 at the Gallery in the Round at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Ames, located on Hyland Avenue near the College of Design. A public reception will be from 5:30–7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2.
The show features work that Professor Iancu developed over the past year and continues her ongoing exploration of infrastructure, landscape, and ecological change. “Thresholds” examines the boundaries between spaces and states of being: between past and present, permanence and change, human intention and forces beyond human control. The exhibition focuses on moments of transition, when familiar structures begin to shift, decay, and take on new possibilities.
“What initially appears to be evidence of destruction is, instead, evidence of hope,” Iancu says. “An abandoned structure becomes a place where something else can take root.”
Gallery hours are Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m.–4 pm., Wednesday and Thursday from 1–4 p.m., or by appointment (call 515-292-5960).
