Students, staff and faculty are invited to stop by the pop-up exhibition of work by students in the spring 2026 ARCH 5300 Formworks elective seminar taught by architecture associate professor Firat Erdim. The exhibition is open to all, and you’re invited to stop by, take a look at the work on display, and enjoy complimentary donuts and coffee.
The Formworks Seminar seeks to uncover critical dialogues between architecture and sculpture on corporeality, materiality, form, and action. Rather than models or mock-ups, students are asked to fabricate a series of constructions that interrogate the values embedded in how we build. These speculative constructions accompany discussions of texts on architectural detailing and craft, as well as works by artists such as Walter Pichler, Gordon Matta-Clark, Matthew Barney, Rachel Whiteread, and Eva Hesse, among others. The ARCH 5300 course progresses from weekly assignments toward a self-defined project, in which students develop a research agenda articulated in matter as well as words.
