IGNITE: Altered States: Self-Portrait Busts

Time

Tuesday, May 05, 2026 to Friday, May 08, 2026

Location
South side of Stepatorium, Student Innovation Center

How we see ourselves and form an identity is explored in “Altered States: Self-Portrait Busts,” which will be on display during IGNITE, May 5–8 on the south side of the Stepatorium in the Student Innovation Center atrium.

Twelve students from ART 3220: Intermediate Ceramics are sharing their work from this project, which started with photographs, preliminary drawings, and small models. They then created nearly life-size ceramic busts of themselves that incorporate their perceptions of themselves with alterations that express aspects of their identity. The final pieces are also surfaced with underglazes the students created themselves.

Students with busts in this display include Alireza Bahari, Becca Blackford, Lucas Brown, Olivia Eckerman, Eleanor Gaul, Kaitlyn Gehrels, Yadira Gonzalez, Grace Johnson, Kaylea Krumm, Madelinle Miller, Molly Schlotfeldt, and Dominic Scudieri.

All ceramics courses in the College of Design are open to non-majors.
