This presentation by Isabel McWilliams, assistant professor of art and visual culture, will consider the materiality of dry lacquer in Buddhist sculpture. Expensive, laborious, and unforgiving, this material and technique was used to render particularly human-like images that speak to an unfolding quest for human familiarity in the creation of divine bodies.
Hosted by the Institute for Design Research and Outreach, this seminar is part of the College of Design Monday Chat series highlighting the work of new assistant professors in the college. All are welcome.
